Dude U/B Merfolk from Marlin Gandolf on Greg's Site looks zetta sexy! Grant it, the decks he tested against were mostly terrible...

If Merfolk is a viable Modern deck (and I have my doubts), Mono-Blue is probably the way to go.

I kind of want to play Eldrazi 12-post in a format like this. I'll need replacements for Crop Rotation, though. Sylvan Scrying? Primeval titan? Reap + sow seems a little pricey for what you want.

12-post is a very real deck, whether it be mono-blue, mono-green, or green-blue. It's definitely something I'm considering.
Right now I'm liking the feel of Bant. With 4 Rhox War Monk you have a decent game 1 against Zoo, and you're reasonable against combo decks as well, and sideboarding only improves you against those decks.

What blue cards do you include in Bant? Would Treehouse (BGW) be better? Discard is probably better against combo in an aggro deck when you can't play free counters. Rhox War Monk is good against aggro, sure, but the Doran-style deck can play big asses. Confidant is good in it in a vacuum, but it might be the deck's only Punishing Fires target.
I think I'd also prefer Thoughtseize effects to Spell Snare/Mana Leak effects against a big-mana deck like 12post. ?
Also, Greg, who are you testing with for Modern? Are you modoing?

The main blue cards for Bant are Vendilion Clique and Rhox War Monk. War Monk is pretty key to being able to beat Zoo game 1 (which it can), and Clique is obvious. I like Doran style better against combo but Bant better against Zoo. I do sometimes wonder if I'm overthinking myself and Zoo is not going to be highly represented at the PT, but it seems unlikely. Definitely not MODOing...too much money right now and I expect prices to settle at some point. So far I've kind of tested against myself (the best kind of testing) to get a feel for decks and matchups, but there should be testing going on this weekend at the SCG event and then of course the week between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.

If blue is just to improve the Zoo matchup, can you not just play more cards like Kitchen Finks? Choosing a color to gain some percentage against one deck when it runs 3-4 path to exile doesn't seem great.
I guess I am expecting the field at this PT to be somewhat open, and a fan of the fact that Thoughtseize can't miss. Then again, I'm not qualified.

I'm not even sure that Thoughtseize is better than Inquisition of Kozilek, but again that comes down to metagame expectations.

I expect 12 post to be good. Kavu predators are a solid answer to the glimmerpost lifegain engine as well as excellent complement to the grove of the burnwillows/punishing fire engine.
If red or black are in as more than a splash i feel like land D is something you want (either grove of the burnwillows, cloudpost, academy ruins or manlands) is what my guess is. Stupor probably isn't a horrible discard spell for X/B midrange.
I think that thirst for knowledge/artifacts/vedalken shackles can probably manage to become a deck. This could be with or without Tezzeret AoB.

Melira Combo with Birthing Pod and Chord of Calling is doing pretty well in the early MODO Modern Daily Events. This deck is the primary one I'm looking at right now. A lot of the other combo decks are very vulnerable to hate but even if you're not comboing this deck is usually fine.

Even though I went 0-4 in matches actually played, I still like my deck. I did not play particularly well today and I had some unusually poor draws.
