So a bunch of us were talking recently about things we'd like to try this upcoming year, and one idea that came up was the idea of "Magic Club Points" similar to pro points in professional Magic. The idea being you would get them for playing in or winning events, and at the end of the year we would do something with them.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

At the end of the year we all steal cards from the people with the most points, since they obviously have the best cards.

Would the points just be a ranking system? Or could they be used as some sort of bartering system?
We could use points to bid on packs or promo cards at the end of semester/year. Or let players spend points on a draft.
Or you could organize special drafts grouped by point brackets.

I was talking with Ko today and we said maybe something like 4-0 gets 2 points and 3-1 gets 1 point at the 4-round MYOS/legacy/etc tournaments

I think there should be at least some base point system for entering?

I thought Ko posted this but here's the system we came up with.
Points are awarded at the 4-round Club-run tournaments as follows: Winner: 4 points 3-1 record: 2 points everyone else: 1 point
The entry of these tournaments will be $6 for the 4 rounds pack per win. $1 from each entry will go towards a prize pool for the end of the year, which will include some kind of plaque/trophy for the 'Player of the Year' as well as possibly something for 2nd and/or 3rd. In addition we will try to figure out a good idea to reward the top 8 players, with some kind of rotisserie draft or something fun like a free tournament with rare/unique cards as prizes.

I think for the end of year prizes, it should be a tournament to say, the top 8 point holders? Some way so that it's not just awarded to the person who plays the most tournaments?
But that's just my .02

That's what I meant. Player of the Year title awarded to the points leader, and a special freeroll tournament for the top 8 point leaders.

I feel like way to many points are given out for just going to the tournament.

I feel like way to many points are given out for just going to the tournament. This is not a bad thing. Outside of 1st place, it should not be very hard to make the top 8 at the end of the year if you are dedicated and show up to a majority of the events. These tournaments are not top-heavy as most magic tournaments are, they are pack per win to promote participation. If you show up to every event you are supporting the prize pool by entering so it makes sense that you have a decent shot at winning, even if you do not do well enough to get more points. However, to get 1st or 2nd place, you will probably need to get some good finishes as well as consistently playing.
