This is a repost from the DCI Judge List, but its a fairly important one:
----
I wanted to bring to your attention the banning in standard made today and most especially Aaron Forsythe's explanation.

Jace, the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic will both be banned in Standard effective July 1, 2011. Exception: The deck list for the "War of Attrition" Event Deck will be legal in Standard if kept completely intact. That deck, which went on sale on June 10, contains two copies of Stoneforge Mystic.
Here's the deck list: WAR OF ATTRITION New Phyrexia Event Deck 2 Dread Statuary 21 Plains 23 lands 4 Elite Vanguard 1 Kemba, Kha Regent 2 Kor Duelist 4 Leonin Relic-Warder 4 Leonin Skyhunter 1 Mirran Crusader 4 Porcelain Legionnaire 1 Puresteel Paladin 2 Stoneforge Mystic 1 Apostle's Blessing 1 Bonehoard 1 Darksteel Axe 4 Flayer Husk 4 Journey to Nowhere 1 Sickleslicer 1 Skinwing 1 Sword of Vengeance Sideboard 1 Apostle's Blessing 2 Arrest 3 Celestial Purge 1 Kor Duelist 4 Kor Firewalker 4 Revoke Existence

Yay! This means that decks in Standard should become more interesting.

You can still use this awesome card, but only in the context we want you to.
That just makes me laugh.

I wasn't expecting stoneforge mystic to be banned as well... well I'm willing to trade for stoneforge mystics now.

I wasn't expecting stoneforge mystic to be banned as well... well I'm willing to trade for stoneforge mystics now. They still cost 15 dollars right now. And stoneforge + batterskull/jitte + sword is definitely legacy viable.

I wasn't expecting stoneforge mystic to be banned as well... well I'm willing to trade for stoneforge mystics now. If I had to bet on one of the two, I would have bet on stoneforge. Jace is great, but ban him and caw-blade still exists. It would barely miss a step. Stoneforge is the card that caused all the degeneracy in the format. It was in the best deck, every variant on the best deck, and several of the decks that tried to compete with the best deck.

From a gameplay perspective I'm excited to start brewing again (though I did genuinely enjoy playing CawBlade), but from a financial perspective I'm pretty disappointed since all I have with me are UW cards.
I'm interested to see what happens to Jace's value. It is now being played quite a bit as a 4-of in Legacy, so long term I expect it to hold $40-50 or similar to Tarmogoyf. I expect Stoneforge to hold a solid 10 after the dust settles, but I could see it being about 8, since it's only played in one deck in Legacy.
If people play Extended/Modern/whatever middle format heavily then prices could go back up. Stoneblade was still the best deck in new extended.

Stoneblade was still the best deck in new extended. www.starcitygames.com/magic/legacy/22134_Too_Much_Information_Grand_Prix_Providence.htmlhas it listed under BW stoneblade (3.47% of the field), UWR stoneblade (1.69% of the field), and UW stoneblade (1.35 % of the field). Together thats 6.5 % of the field being specifically stoneforge decks, not counting its occasional inclusion in certain forms of zoo, junk and bant (like the bant deck that won the gp). Maverick (GW w/ green sun'z) often runs it as a 3 of. I havent really seen maverick do much, but its listed as proven in mtgs.

I don't quite understand how that conflicts with Mike's statement. There is StoneBlade (and some of the variations). Aside from that, it seems like it's a played card in a few other decks, but not a general staple in many other decks.
As for the prevalence, 6.5% is nothing when compared to some other cards that have such a choke hold on Legacy deckbuilding...

I am going to need to buy Jace and Mystic on MODO to prepare for Extended for PT Philadelphia. Anything that drops their value makes me happy!
