Now that Modern is official I am able to think about it....
Here's my knee-jerk reaction to the format:
Zoo
...that's all I got. Should be interesting to brew?
I think my starting point would be Mono U Wizzies
Dragonstorm? Gifts/Teachings? Cloudpost?
Other cards that scream for attention: Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Aether Vial
Other reactions? I'm not incredibly motivated to see what is already out there regarding the format, more fun being blind.
Mono U
4 Spellstutter Sprite 3 Vendilion Clique 4 Scion of Oona 2 Venser, Shaper Savant
4 Vedalken Shackles
3 Spell Snare 4 Mana Leak 4 Cryptic Command 4 Preordain
Island 4 Mutavault
More cards
Probably play some fetches/shocks to splash whatever's best. I assume aggro will be good to start with, so maybe Timely Reinforcements.
On the other hand, a deck that can rely on Kitchen Finks and Timely Reinforcements sounds good. Doran?

I'm immediately looking to pod at the legacy shell I had going and cutting the cards that aren't in modern.
Other than that, I want to see some sort of monowhite deck with Aether Vial, Ghost Quarters, Leonin Arbiter etc.
The format is very wide open though

Gifts/Loam w/punishing fire+burnwillows, Eternal Witness, Goyf, EE, etc.
or
TRON.
Looks like there will be some interesting brewing.

Also, I have no idea how to build or play Gifts, never cast the card in my life (maybe once playing Foghat's Sharuum EDH).

12 post is better.
Lands: 4 breeding pool 4 cloudpost 1 eye of ugin 2 forest 4 glimmerpost 1 island 4 misty rainforest 1 tectonic edge 4 vesuva
Creatures 1 sakura-Tribe Elder 3 primeval titan 4 emrakul, the aeons Torn
Noncreature Spells 4 expedition map 4 simic signet 3 condescend 4 remand 4 repeal 4 explore 4 green sun's Zenith
You can slow roll and emrakul without resolving another spell as early as turn 5, but more likely turn 6 or 7 while gaining life along the way. You can take infinite turns, and drop a turn 3 primeval titan to gain 8 life. If you swing with primeval titan, you can gain another dozen life.
Gifts for Life from the loam, academy ruins, mindslaver, cloudpost was tried. Primeval titan and emrakul give you equal inevitability though, and the early game gifts pile of loam, cloudpost, glimmerpost, vesuva just didnt seem good enough to take away 4 slots to gifts ungiven, 1 to life from the loam, 1 to academy ruins, 1 to mindslaver.

The final banned list is as follows:
Ancestral Vision Ancient Den Bitterblossom Chrome Mox Dark Depths Dread Return Glimpse of Nature Golgari Grave-Troll Great Furnace Hypergenesis Jace, the Mind Sculptor Mental Misstep Seat of the Synod Sensei's Divining Top Skullclamp Stoneforge Mystic Sword of the Meek Tree of Tales Umezawa's Jitte Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle Vault of Whispers
A lot of people are complaining but I think that it makes it more exciting to brew. I don't want to play with those cards all over again anyway.

They banned key cards from each of the past powerful standard decks except that they left jund alone. Then any legacy cards that they thought would port over, but they left legacy creatures (except stoneforge) alone.

Tezzeret, pretty good match up against the 'popular' decks.
As it turns out:
Eldrazi hate Ensnaring Bridge. Combo hates Trinisphere. Creatures hate Vedalken Shackles.
and
Rings of Brighthearth + 4 artifacts = lethal tezzeret ultimate
Also, people play poorly against rogue decks.

Mike, why Glimpse of Nature Hypergenesis Mental Misstep Sword of the Meek Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
And will it effect the price of Jace and Bitterblossom?

Mike, why Glimpse of Nature Hypergenesis Mental Misstep Sword of the Meek Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle And will it effect the price of Jace and Bitterblossom? Glimpse is comborific in elves Hypergenesis is a combo deck when combined with cascade Mental Misstep, they didn't want people to be able to counter things on turn 1 on the draw. Sword of the Meek and Thopter Foundry Combo too well. Valakut is a combo deck and has access to scapeshift and or pismatic omen. Also, Max, here is my tezzeret list: 4x Dimir Signet 4x Everflowing Chalice 3x Mox Opal 3x Engineered Explosives 2x Vedalken Shackles 2x Ensnaring Bridge 1x Executioner's Capsule 1x Pithing Needle 1x Crucible of Worlds 1x Expedition Map 1x Rings of Brighthearth 1x Wurmcoil Engine 4x Thirst for Knowledge 4x Remand 4x Thoughtcast 2x Fabricate 4x Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas 2x Watery Grave 4x Scalding Tarn 4x Darksteel Citadel 1x Academy Ruins 1x Ghost Quarter 8x Island Board: 4x Duress 2x Trinisphere 2x Nihil Spellbomb 2x Relic of Progenitus 2x Pithing Needle 2x Go for the Throat 1x Rings of Brighthearth

Bitterblossom and Jace won't be affected, well, they won't go up like they would if they were legal but they retain their legacy value. Short term there might be less demand for legacy due to modern but long term it will not be relevant.
Here's a few more lists I brainstormed (rough lists).
BUG
4 dark confidant 4 tarmogoyf 3 vendilion clique
4 thoughtseize 2 inquisition of kozilek 4 mana leak 2 condescend 3 spell snare 1 spell pierce 3 engineered explosives 1 dismember 1 go for the throat 1 maelstrom pulse 3 preordain 4 verdant catacombs 3 misty rainforest 4 watery grave 4 breeding pool 4 overgrown tomb 2 marsh flats 1 island 1 swamp 1 forest 2 duress 4 kitchen finks 1 maelstrom pulse 2 spell pierce 3 damnation 3 threads of disloyalty
All-In Red
4 empty the warrens 4 deus of calamity 4 blood moon 4 seething song 4 desperate ritual 4 pyretic ritual 4 rite of flame 4 gitaxian probe 4 manamorphose 4 arid mesa 4 scalding tarn 16 mountain
Mono-White Life
4 martyr of sands 4 soul thing 4 other soul thing 4 serra ascendant 4 ranger of eos 4 ajani's pridemate 4 wall of omens 2 sun titan 4 proclamation of rebirth 2 path to exile 4 emeria, the sky ruin 20 plains
Pyromancer Ascension
4 pyromancer ascension 4 ponder 4 preordain 4 sleight of hand 4 telling time 4 rune snag 4 remand 2 time warp 4 lightning bolt 2 call to mind 4 scalding tarn 4 steam vents 4 misty rainforest 4 cascade bluffs 5 island 3 mountain
UG Tempo
4 noble hierarch 4 quirion dryad 4 tarmogoyf 4 lorescale coatl 4 preordain 4 ponder 4 gitaxian probe 4 time warp 4 remand 4 dismember 4 misty rainforest 4 breeding pool 4 verdant catacombs 4 filter land 2 island 2 forest

You haven't heard of Soul Things? It's, like, the best mono-white life gain card out there. It's also sometimes referred to as Magus of the Invincible Hymn; it gains you ludicrous amounts of life each turn.

Other than the Gemstone Array -->Caverns. Thats a pretty funny deck.
Also maybe cutting the preordain to make it so you can only hit balance?

Oh shit... I forgot about the preordains messing it up >.>, that was a brain dead mistake. Gemstone Array was supposed to be Gemstone Mine. One of the bonuses of using the Gemstone Mine is that it kills itself at 3 uses, aka, the turn you cast your cascade. Hopefully leaving you with 0 lands and balance blows up all of their lands in case you couldn't bounce them all with posts.
Uhhh I guess I can replace the preordains with.... thirst for knowledge maybe? Not sure, but something useful. (I can't believe I didn't think about it messing up the cascade <.<)

I'm playing the Pro Tour for this format and I have no idea what I want to play. Zoo is really the measuring stick for the format. If your deck can't beat Zoo, it's not a viable deck.
